Sometimes it is so hard to be creative when decorating our classrooms. Coming up with new ideas after teaching for a long time can be challenging. This year I decided to make my Back to School bulletin boards with a purpose. I wanted to use creative bulletin boards that taught a lesson. I also wanted to use interactive bulletin boards to teach or review a skill.
Social Emotional Lessons
The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to teach positive character traits. Also is important to build a sense of classroom community. When I created my Cooking Up A Great Year in Kindergarten, bulletin board, I used a cooking theme to teach character trait lessons. You can discuss a few traits a week or stretch it out over several months. It was important to be creative and my bulletin boards with a purpose. I included lessons with a chance for the students to write. I included a “recipe for a good friend” and other writing prompts. This activity was to give them a chance to verbalize what they had learned.
Interactive Bulletin Boards
Interactive bulletin boards are a creative and fun way to teach a new skill or review a previous one. I created a math bulletin board for September with an apple theme. The apple theme is one of my favorites and math problems fit so easily on an apple! I created this board with a choice of apples with parts of our school day or apples with addition and subtraction sentences. During center or work time, students can work on the problems on the interactive bulletin board. Included with the bulletin board set, are answer sheets. The students love standing or sitting by the board and working on their math problems.
I hope this has given you some ideas and ways to be creative when getting your classroom ready this Fall! Have fun and enjoy your students !
